9/26/2018: Updated guidance and policy on manning of inspected towing vessels

The Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise posted a notice on its website Sept. 12, 2018 to alert mariners that the manning section of TugSafe Central has been revised to clarify current guidance and policy regarding manning of inspected towing vessels. Additionally, a new section entitled “Determining Manning Levels” was added to provide guidance and references for developing and evaluating manning levels for these vessels.

This guidance can assist vessel owners and operators as they propose manning levels to the Coast Guard when requesting an initial inspection for certification. The “Manning” and “Determining Manning Levels” sections can be found in the Credentials, Documents and Reports section.

USCG: MMC Application Package Submission Guidelines

“The National Maritime Center posted guidance on its website to help mariners submit a complete and accurate Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) application package. These guidance documents are intended to aid mariner applicants in properly completing the CG-719B Application for MMC and the Evidence of Sea Service forms. To ensure mariners receive credentials within the NMC-stated processing goal of 30 days, proper submission of this documentation is essential.”

USCG: MSIB 13-18: Special Considerations for Sub M – Flammable/Combustible Storage Cabinets

USCG Sector Houston-Galveston issued MSIB 13-18: Special Considerations for Subchapter M Regulations – Flammable/Combustible Storage Cabinets. This MSIB addresses requests related to existing aluminum constructed flammable/combustible storage cabinets and the circumstances that Sector Houston-Galveston will consider them as meeting the requirements of 46 CFR 142.225 when issuing a COI to an inspected towing vessel (ITV).
